Like most incidents in healthcare, warning signs often precede a tracheostomy or laryngectomy emergency. Knowing what to look for and how to troubleshoot these problems can prevent or reduce harm.

We have called these signs ‘red flags’. They can be considered as Airway, Breathing, Circulation, Disability and Tracheostomy-specific signs to look out for, remembering that any problem with your airway can cause general signs of deterioration.
