Minor bleeding causes blood-stained secretions. These must be investigated if they do not settle.
Delayed bleeding could mean a vessel has become eroded and needs prompt, careful investigation. Significant bleeding may be temporarily stopped by hyper-inflating a tracheostomy tube cuff. Unless the tube is blocked or displaced, do not remove the tube until surgical expertise is available because the tube/cuff may be tamponading the bleed.
100 ml of air is well beyond the usual 20 ml maximum capacity of a cuff, which implies cuff failure.
